Part 8: Engaging the World

Chapter 5: Education and Indoctrination

Taking Back Your Children's Minds

Your son comes home from middle school and tells you they spent an hour in English class discussing "systemic racism." Not reading literature — discussing activism. Your daughter mentions her history teacher said the Founding Fathers were primarily motivated by greed and racism. No nuance. No primary sources. Just indoctrination. You discover your elementary school has "Drag Queen Story Hour." You object. The principal calls you bigoted.

You're watching the systematic capture of your children's education by activists who see schools not as places to teach reading, writing, and arithmetic — but as laboratories for cultural transformation. The people teaching your kids often have very different values than you do. And they're spending more waking hours with your children than you are.

God's Design: Parents Teach Children

Parents are responsible

God gave children to parents — not to the state, not to schools. "These words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise" (Deuteronomy 6:6–7). Notice: parents teach children, constantly (sitting, walking, lying down, rising — all of life), in the Lord (biblical worldview, not secular). Schools can assist. But you're responsible. You can't delegate authority.

Truth is absolute

I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

— John 14:6 (NET)

Set them apart in the truth; your word is truth.

— John 17:17 (NET)

Truth is objective (exists independently of what we think), absolute (unchanging), and revealed (in Scripture and creation). Education should teach students to recognize truth, equip them to think critically, and ground them in reality — not ideology. Modern education does the opposite: it teaches relativism, deconstructs truth, and indoctrinates in ideology.

The Enemy's Strategy: Capturing Education

Step 1: Replace parents as primary authority. The progressive vision: the state knows better than parents. Teachers withhold information from parents (gender transitions without notification), schools claim authority over children's "best interests," curriculum decisions are made without parental input, and parents have been labeled "domestic terrorists" for objecting at school boards. The goal: make parents bystanders in their children's formation.

Step 2: Teach moral relativism. From kindergarten on: there's no absolute truth, morality is personal preference, all values are equal, question everything (especially your parents' beliefs). The result: children who have no moral foundation, no ability to discern truth from lies, no allegiance to anything except their own feelings. They're easy to manipulate. Which is the point.

Step 3: Indoctrinate in gender ideology. Elementary schools with books about kids transitioning, lessons on pronouns, "gender is a spectrum." Middle and high schools with "you might be trans," affirmation-only approaches, and secret transitions (don't tell parents). The goal: confuse children about their identity during the most vulnerable developmental years.

Step 4: Rewrite history. American history taught as founded on racism and greed, systemically oppressive, needing to be deconstructed. Western civilization framed as colonialism and exploitation. Christianity as oppression. The goal: make students hate their own culture, reject their heritage, and embrace revolution.

Step 5: Sexualize children early. "Comprehensive sex education" in elementary school: graphic descriptions of sexual acts, normalizing homosexuality and transgenderism, undermining parental authority. The goal: destroy innocence, separate children from their parents' values.

Step 6: Punish dissent. Parents who object are called bigoted and dangerous. Students who question ideology are bullied, punished, isolated. The goal: silence opposition. Make conformity mandatory.

Your Response: Reclaim Authority Over Your Children's Education

1. Recognize: you're responsible. Even if your kids are in school, you are the primary educator. You can't just drop them off and hope for the best. You must know what they're being taught, counter lies with truth, and not outsource discipleship.

2. Review curriculum and engage schools. Request to see curriculum — you have a right to know what your kids are being taught. Ask what's being taught about gender, American history, assigned books, and sex ed. Attend school board meetings. Build alliances with other parents. But be prepared: some schools won't budge.

3. Seriously consider alternatives. Homeschooling allows you to control curriculum, protect from indoctrination, spend more time discipling, and achieve strong academic results. Pros include protection from indoctrination; cons include sacrifice (one parent usually home) and less automatic socialization (though co-ops, sports, and church address this). Classical Christian schools offer a biblical worldview integrated into education and community with like-minded families. Hybrid and co-op models combine parental control with expert teaching at lower cost. If you must use public school: stay engaged, review curriculum, counter lies at home, know the teachers, and be prepared to pull your kids if it becomes untenable.

4. Teach truth at home. Regardless of where your kids go to school, you must teach a biblical worldview and counter cultural lies. "Gender is a choice" — No. "America was founded on racism" — No. "All religions are equal" — No. "Follow your heart" — No. This requires daily conversations, deconstructing what they learned, reinforcing truth, and modeling critical thinking. Don't assume they'll figure it out. Teach them.

5. Don't assume the church will do it. Youth group is helpful. But one hour a week can't undo 30+ hours of secular indoctrination. Disciple your kids daily. Catechize them — teach systematic theology, the Apostles' Creed, Lord's Prayer, Ten Commandments. Pray with them. Model faith. The church supports you. It can't replace you.

Real Examples: Parents Fighting Back (and Winning/Losing)

Case Study 1: The Parents Who Pulled Their Kids Out. A family in Loudoun County, Virginia — schools teaching CRT and gender ideology, parents objected, school board ignored them, one parent was arrested for speaking out. They pulled their kids out, started homeschooling, connected with a co-op. Three years later: kids thriving academically and spiritually, stronger family bonds. The lesson: sometimes you have to leave. And you'll be okay.

Case Study 2: The Mom Who Fought and Won. An elementary school introducing gender ideology curriculum. One mom discovered it, raised alarm, mobilized other parents, attended school board meetings, organized recall campaigns. Result: curriculum withdrawn, board members recalled, school refocused on academics. The lesson: sometimes you can win. But it takes work, courage, and community.

Case Study 3: The Family That Stayed and Regretted It. "We're here to be salt and light," they said, and kept their kids in public school despite growing concerns. Two of their three kids left the faith in college, fully absorbed cultural values, now hostile to Christianity. The parents now say: "We were naive. We thought we could keep teaching truth at home and it would be enough. It wasn't. The peer pressure and constant indoctrination won." The lesson: you can't disciple kids a few hours a week and expect it to overcome 30+ hours of secular formation.

Action Steps: What You Can Do This Week

  1. Review your child's curriculum — request it from the school; if they won't provide it, that's a red flag.
  2. Talk to your kids about what they're learning: what did you learn today? What did your teacher say about that topic? Does that match what we believe? Correct lies, reinforce truth.
  3. Research alternatives — look into homeschool co-ops, classical Christian schools, hybrid models. Know your options even if you're not ready to switch.
  4. Attend a school board meeting — see what's being discussed, speak if needed.
  5. Connect with like-minded parents — find families who share your values, support each other, strategize together.

The Hope: God Can Protect Your Children

Daniel thrived in Babylon. Joseph thrived in Egypt. Your kids can thrive in secular schools — if you're discipling them. But don't assume they will. Don't be passive. Fight for their minds and hearts. You're not responsible for outcomes. You're responsible for faithfulness. Teach them. Protect them. Pray for them. Trust God with the results.
