Part 7: The Authority of the Disciple
Healing and Deliverance in the Name of Jesus
Before Jesus ascended, He spoke words that should have left the disciples trembling:
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
— Matthew 28:18–20 (NET)
All authority. Not some. Not most. All. He didn't say, "Go and wait for Me to do everything." He said, "Go." With His authority. In His name. Empowered by His Spirit.
This is the commissioning of the rescue mission. You are not spectators watching God work from a distance. You are agents carrying delegated authority from the King to enforce His victory on enemy-occupied territory.
But understand this clearly: your authority is not your own. It is borrowed. Derivative. Contingent.
You have no power in yourself. You are a branch drawing from the Vine (John 15:5). You are a vessel carrying treasure you didn't create (2 Corinthians 4:7). You operate under authority, not by authority. The moment you forget this — the moment you treat spiritual power as something you possess rather than something you steward — you become dangerous, ineffective, and possibly damned.
This section will teach you how to exercise the authority Jesus delegated to His disciples for two specific purposes: healing the sick and delivering the captive. These are not optional. They are not reserved for elite Christians with special anointing. Jesus commanded His disciples to heal the sick, cast out demons, and proclaim the kingdom (Matthew 10:7–8; Mark 16:17–18; Luke 10:9).
But before you step into this authority, you must understand the legal basis for it, the tactical execution of it, the limits of it, and the dangers of misusing it. This is not a game. This is warfare. And casualties come from arrogance as often as they come from cowardice.
