Vol I: A Handbook for Disciples in Spiritual Warfare
Conclusion: The Goal of Sanctification
You've reached the end of this handbook. But this isn't the end. This is the beginning.
You now know who Jesus is (Part 1 — not just a teacher, but God incarnate, the great I AM); how to enter relationship with Him (New Birth section — through repentance and faith, born again by the Spirit); what He commands (Part 2 — love, prayer, money, government, mission, holiness, community, sacraments — with divine authority behind every command); how He teaches (Part 3 — through parables revealing kingdom mysteries, discipleship patterns, and judgment warnings); the path of growth (Part 4 — sequential stages from spiritual bankruptcy to persecution, each building on the last); the Spirit's power (Part 5 — the Helper who convicts, teaches, guides, empowers, produces fruit, and never leaves); your weapons (Part 6 — the armor of God and the missing piece: prayer); your authority (Part 7 — Christ's delegated power to heal the sick and deliver captives, enforcing His victory on enemy territory); how to engage culture (Part 8 — gender ideology, family, abortion, government, education — fighting FOR people, not AGAINST them); how to handle failure (Part 9 — confess, repent, get back up); why you need community (Part 10 — you can't do this alone; the "one another" commands require actual people); how to make disciples (Part 11 — starting at home, using proven models, multiplying exponentially); and the daily rhythms (Part 12 — prayer, Scripture, worship, fasting, Sabbath, solitude, confession, service, generosity).
That's a lot. If you're feeling overwhelmed, good. You should be. This isn't a weekend seminar. This is a life's work.
But here's what you need to understand before you close this book: you're not just becoming holy. You're becoming useful.
The Living Stones: God Is Building Through You
So as you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and priceless in God's sight, you yourselves, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood and to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
— 1 Peter 2:4–5 (NET)
You are a living stone in God's kingdom-building project. Every time you obey when it costs you, speak truth in a culture of lies, disciple your children, forgive your enemy, pray for the lost, resist temptation, confess sin and get back up, serve "the least of these," pray for healing in Jesus' name, minister deliverance to the captive, or make a disciple who makes disciples — a stone is laid.
God is building His kingdom through your faithfulness. Not through your perfection. Not through your eloquence. Not through your intelligence or charisma or platform. Through your faithfulness. One stone at a time.
You won't see the finished cathedral. You're laying stones that future generations will build on. But every stone matters. Every act of obedience counts. Every prayer is heard. Every seed planted will sprout in God's timing.
This is what sanctification is for. You're not being made holy just so you can feel spiritual or escape hell. You're being made holy so God can use you to build His kingdom.
because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
— Romans 8:29 (NET)
The goal of sanctification: becoming like Jesus — so you can do what Jesus did. He proclaimed the kingdom (Mark 1:14–15), made disciples (Matthew 4:19), healed the sick and cast out demons (Matthew 10:1), served the vulnerable (Matthew 25:31–46), spoke truth to power (Matthew 23:1–36), died for sinners (Romans 5:8), and rose victorious (1 Corinthians 15:20). Now He calls you to do the same (minus the atoning death — that's His alone). You're not just a project (God fixing you). You're a tool (God using you).
