Conclusion: The Goal of Sanctification

Start Somewhere: Five Beginning Points

Don't try to implement all twelve parts at once. That's a recipe for burnout. Instead, pick ONE category to focus on first. Master it. Then add another.

Starting Point 1: Abide (if you're spiritually dry). Focus: Part 12. Set a daily time for prayer and Scripture (even 15 minutes), pick one spiritual discipline to add (fasting, Sabbath, solitude), and commit to 30 days of consistency. Why start here? You can't give what you don't have. If you're not abiding in Christ (John 15:5), you'll produce nothing of eternal value.

Starting Point 2: Obey (if you're convicted of specific sin). Focus: Part 2. Identify the one command you're most clearly violating, confess it, put a plan in place (accountability, boundaries, new habits), and check in weekly with someone who'll hold you accountable. Why start here? Obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). If you know you're in willful disobedience, nothing else matters until you repent and obey.

Starting Point 3: Make Disciples (if you're not investing in anyone). Focus: Part 11. Pray for God to show you ONE person to invest in, invite them to meet weekly for six months, and use a simple structure: prayer, Scripture, accountability, mission. Why start here? Jesus commanded it (Matthew 28:19). And nothing solidifies your own growth like teaching someone else. You learn by teaching.

Starting Point 4: Engage (if you're retreating from the culture). Focus: Part 8. Pick ONE cultural issue you've been silent on (gender, abortion, government, education), educate yourself biblically, and take ONE public stand this month (speak at a school board meeting, write a letter, have a hard conversation). Why start here? Jesus said "Occupy till I come," not "Hide till I come."

Starting Point 5: Serve (if you're self-focused). Focus: Part 3, the Sheep and the Goats section. Identify ONE "least of these" person in your sphere, do ONE act of service for them this week (visit, feed, clothe, help), and make it a monthly habit. Why start here? Jesus said, "As you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me" (Matthew 25:40). If you're not serving the vulnerable, you're not serving Jesus.

Pick one. Don't try to do all five at once. Master one category. Then add another. The goal isn't to do everything perfectly — the goal is to start, and to keep going.
