Conclusion: The Goal of Sanctification
How the Kingdom Actually Advances
Disarming the rulers and authorities, he has made a public disgrace of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
— Colossians 2:15 (NET)
The victory is already won. At the cross, Jesus disarmed the enemy. The legal claim the adversary had over humanity — through sin, sickness, and death — is broken. The Emancipation Proclamation has been signed. But how does this victory manifest in history?
Through the slow, steady, often invisible work of the Holy Spirit transforming hearts, one person at a time, across generations. Like leaven (Matthew 13:33) — you can't see it working, but it's spreading through the whole lump. Like a mustard seed (Matthew 13:31–32) — it starts small, but it grows into something that shelters nations.
The gates of Hades are not prevailing (Matthew 16:18). Every soul saved is territory reclaimed. Every disciple made is a soldier enlisted. Every family restored is a fortress rebuilt. Every church planted is an outpost established. Every nation that turns to Christ is a province liberated.
This doesn't mean the enemy isn't fighting back. he is — violently, desperately — because he knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12). But his defeat is certain. he's fighting a rear-guard action, inflicting casualties, spreading chaos — but he cannot win.
You're on the winning side. Not because you're strong, but because your Commander has already secured victory. Your job is to enforce that victory on the ground — one stone, one seed, one soul at a time.
The Sovereign God Principle
And here's the ultimate reason your small acts of obedience matter: because the sovereign God of the universe has chosen to work through them.
For the one bringing forth in you both the desire and the effort – for the sake of his good pleasure – is God.
— Philippians 2:13 (NET)
You're not building the kingdom in your own strength. God is building it through you. You're not laying stones alone. The Spirit is empowering every obedient act. You're not planting seeds in your own wisdom. God is directing every faithful step.
So yes, your one life matters. Because God is working through your one life to accomplish purposes you'll never fully see this side of eternity. That's how the kingdom advances — not through spectacular miracles or cultural domination, but through faithful disciples laying stones, planting seeds, making disciples, one act of obedience at a time.
