Introduction: The Ground Before the Battle (4 of 4)

2. Jesus Lived as the Universal Example of Godly Righteousness

To follow Him means to learn to be like Him. Not by trying harder, but by letting the Spirit transform you as you study His life, obey His words, and abide in Him.

But here's the amazing thing: You're not just being conformed to the image of a good man. You're being conformed to the image of God (Romans 8:29). Since Jesus IS God, becoming like Jesus means becoming what humanity was always meant to be — image-bearers of God, reflecting His character, living in union with Him.

This book will show you how.

3. The Holy Spirit Mends the Brokenness in Your Heart and Mind

You're broken. So am I. So is everyone reading this. The Spirit is healing you — slowly, but truly. As He does, you help mend others — not because you're perfect, but because you're being healed.

You don't wait until you're "ready." You'd be dead before that happens. You start where you are.

Each of us is at a different point in the walk. Some are further along, some are just beginning, but we're all broken people being healed by the Spirit of God. And as we're healed, we help heal others — not out of pride or superiority, but out of the overflow of what God is doing in us.

4. You're Building God's Kingdom, One Faithful Decision at a Time

This isn't just about your personal holiness. You are a living stone (1 Peter 2:5) in God's hands. He's building His kingdom — and you're part of the construction.

Every faithful conversation with your child? A stone laid.

Every time you speak truth at cost? A stone laid.

Every prayer, every act of service, every stand for righteousness? Stones. Laid. One. At. A. Time.

The building is slow. You won't see the finished cathedral. But you lay your stones faithfully, and God makes them fit.

And here's what gives you confidence: The Master Builder is God Himself.

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

— Matthew 16:18 (NET)

Not "might not overpower." Not "probably won't overpower." WILL NOT overpower.

The outcome is certain. God is sovereign. The kingdom is advancing. Your job isn't to ensure victory — Jesus already did that. Your job is to be faithful where He's placed you.

Even when political tides turn against you. Even when laws you fought for are overturned. Even when the next generation seems lost.

Because the kingdom doesn't advance through legislation. It advances through faithfulness.

The Thesis of This Book

Here it is in full:

You follow Christ because you love Him — and that love was given to you by the Spirit before you earned it, while you were still a sinner (Romans 5:8). The obedience this handbook calls you to is not the price of that love. It is what that love looks like when it moves.

The world around you is in deep confusion because people have rejected the knowing that orders a life — the present-tense relational knowing of the Father and the Son described in John 17:3. That confusion has a logic: it traces to the oldest lie, the original rebellion in Eden — that you can define reality yourself, that you can be your own god. Every cultural crisis you are watching unfold is a variation on that lie. It is not an accident. It is spiritual warfare.

But the people caught in that confusion are not your enemy. They are deceived, enslaved, or broken — and many of them are genuinely trying to love with the only tools a broken world gave them. Your job is not to defeat them. It is to rescue them — by staying connected to the Vine, by abiding in the love of Christ, and by speaking truth with grief for the captive rather than contempt for the error.

Jesus is God. When you follow Christ, you are not following a teacher who points the way to God — you are following God Himself, come in flesh, showing you what humanity in union with the Father looks like. The Holy Spirit is the engine of the transformation from what you are to what He is making you. He mends, slowly but truly. And as He mends you, you help mend others — not from superiority, but from the overflow.

Your job as a disciple is to know Christ, abide in Him, and be faithful — one stone laid, one seed planted, one person loved at a time.

This handbook will show you how.

How to Use This Book

  • Read straight through once to get the full picture
  • Then use it as a reference when facing specific issues
  • Practice the action steps at the end of each chapter
  • Discuss it with other believers (this isn't meant to be done alone)
  • Return to it regularly as you grow and face new battles

Most importantly: Don't just read. Obey.

Knowledge that doesn't lead to obedience is worthless. Worse than worthless — it's condemnation (James 1:22).

And remember: The commands you'll encounter aren't from a man. They're from God. When Jesus speaks, YHWH speaks. When Jesus commands, the Creator commands.

That's not pressure — that's authority you can trust. The one commanding you is the same one who:

  • Created you (Colossians 1:16)
  • Died for you (Romans 5:8)
  • Rose for you (1 Corinthians 15:20)
  • Lives to intercede for you (Hebrews 7:25)
  • Will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5)

You're in good hands. The best hands. God's hands.

Now let's begin.

Part 1: Who Jesus Is.

This is the foundation. Get this right, and everything else falls into place. Get this wrong, and nothing else matters.
