Introduction: The Ground Before the Battle (2 of 4)

If you're reading this thinking: "Finally! We're turning the tide! The culture war is being won!"

Stop.

Political victories don't end spiritual warfare. They often reveal the next front.

Here's why these wins — as real and important as they are — don't mean the battle is over:

1. The Enemy Adapts

When one door closes, another opens.

Abortion? Post-Dobbs, the pro-abortion movement shifted to:

  • Chemical abortion pills (mailed across state lines)
  • "Abortion sanctuaries" in blue states
  • Corporate funding for employees to travel for abortions
  • Rebranding abortion as "reproductive healthcare"

Gender ideology? When states ban medical transition for minors, the movement shifts to:

  • "Social transition" (pronouns, names, bathrooms) which doesn't require surgery
  • Teacher training programs that embed ideology without parental consent
  • Federal pressure through Title IX reinterpretations
  • Lawsuits against states that protect children

DEI rollback? Companies quietly remove the language but keep the policies under different names. The ideology doesn't disappear — it rebrands.

The pattern: Win a political battle, and the spiritual war shifts strategy. You're fighting a hydra. Cut off one head, two more grow.

2. Politics Can't Change Hearts

Legislation can:

  • Restrain evil (Romans 13:4)
  • Protect the vulnerable
  • Establish justice
  • Create space for the gospel

Legislation cannot:

  • Regenerate hearts
  • Replace discipleship
  • Build the church
  • Advance the kingdom (ultimately)

Your liberal neighbor might live in a red state with good laws. But if no one shares the gospel with him, he's still lost.

Your child might attend a school that bans gender ideology. But if you don't disciple them at home, they'll absorb it from peers, social media, and culture.

Political wins buy you time and space. They don't win souls.

3. Cultural Victories Can Breed Complacency

This is the most dangerous trap.

When Christians see political wins, they're tempted to think:

  • "We won. Now we can relax."
  • "The culture is shifting our way. The hard work is done."
  • "We elected the right people. They'll fix everything."

Wrong.

The enemy loves this response. Because while you're celebrating political victories and assuming the war is over, he's already moving to the next battlefield.

  • You won on abortion? he's targeting your kids with gender confusion.
  • You protected girls' sports? he's redefining the family through adoption and foster laws.
  • You elected conservatives? he's working through media, entertainment, and technology to shape hearts.

Every political victory should produce more vigilance, not less.

4. The Real War Is Spiritual

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.

— Ephesians 6:12 (NET)

Your enemy isn't Democrats or progressives or woke corporations.

Your enemy is Satan and his spiritual forces — who work through Democrats, progressives, corporations, AND Republicans, conservatives, and churches when they can.

The battlefield is human hearts. Politics is downstream from culture. Culture is downstream from worldview. Worldview is shaped by spiritual forces.

If you win every political battle but lose the hearts of the next generation, you've lost the war.

So What Do Political Wins Actually Accomplish?

They're not meaningless. But they're limited.

Political victories:

  • Buy time (slowing the advance of evil)
  • Protect the vulnerable (saving lives, protecting children)
  • Create space (for the gospel to spread, for families to thrive)
  • Restrain wickedness (government's God-given role — Romans 13:4)

But they don't:

  • Change the human heart (only the Spirit does that)
  • Advance the kingdom ultimately (that happens through disciples making disciples)
  • End the spiritual war (that doesn't end until Christ returns)

So celebrate wins. Thank God for them. Use the space they create.

But don't think the war is over.

It's not.

The enemy is already at work on the next front. And the next generation is already being targeted.

What You're Seeing in the News IS the Battle

Let me connect the dots for you, because once you see it, you can't unsee it.

"…you will be like divine beings who know good and evil."

— Genesis 3:5 (NET)

That's the core lie. You get to define reality. You are your own god.

Now watch how it plays out:

  • Gender ideology: "You define your own gender" (rejecting God's creation design)
  • Abortion: "You define when life begins" (rejecting God's sovereignty over life)
  • Sexual revolution: "You define what's right for you sexually" (rejecting God's design for sex and marriage)
  • Moral relativism: "You define your own truth" (rejecting absolute truth)
  • Open borders: "Nations are oppressive constructs" (rejecting God's establishment of nations — Acts 17:26)
  • Equity over equality: "Equal outcomes, not equal opportunity" (rejecting personal responsibility, redefining justice)

But look at something else in the news before drawing the conclusion. You are also watching what happens in Israel and the Middle East — the oldest contested ground on earth, still burning. This belongs in a different category from everything in the list above. It is not primarily a rebellion against God's design. It is a covenant story still in motion. God made a promise to Abraham that He has not retracted, and Israel remains within the frame of what God is doing in history.

For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.

— Romans 11:29 (NET)

Watch the Middle East as a disciple, not only as a citizen. The nations around Israel, the conflict over that land, the persistence of that people — these are not accidents of history. They are covenant history unfolding. The story is not over.

Every single cultural battle traces back to the same Edenic rebellion: I will be like God. I will define good and evil for myself.

And the enemy wraps it in beautiful language:

  • "Love" (redefined as affirming sin)
  • "Compassion" (used to justify enabling evil)
  • "Justice" (twisted into forced equality)
  • "Freedom" (from God's "oppressive" design)
  • "Progress" (away from God's order)

Result: Christians who stand on biblical truth are automatically labeled hateful, bigoted, regressive, dangerous.

The trap is set. Speak truth → get called hateful → fear man → stay silent → evil advances unopposed.

Even when you win politically, this trap remains. Because the lie ("you will be like divine beings") didn't start with progressive politics. It started in Eden. And it will persist until Christ returns.

Your Mission: Save People, Kill Sin

Soldiers kill people. You're not a soldier in that sense. You're a disciple on a rescue mission.
