Introduction
Introduction: The Ground Before the Battle (3 of 4)
Your liberal neighbor isn't the enemy. The lies enslaving him are.
Your child's teacher isn't the enemy. The ideology she's been deceived by is.
Your agnostic child isn't the enemy. The pride and rebellion in his heart is.
You fight for people, not against people.
But — and this is critical — you still fight. You oppose evil. You call lies "lies" and sin "sin." You protect your children. You speak truth. You refuse to participate in delusion.
You just do it with grief, not glee. Compassion, not contempt. The goal of rescue, not revenge.
And sometimes that fight includes literal rescue — praying for physical healing, ministering deliverance from demonic oppression, breaking strongholds in the mind that have kept people captive for years. Jesus didn't just preach. He healed the sick, cast out demons, and set captives free (Luke 4:18–19). He then delegated that same authority to His disciples (Matthew 10:7–8; Mark 16:17–18). You're not just called to share the gospel. You're called to demonstrate the kingdom — through healing, deliverance, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Here's what that looks like practically:
- Your neighbor: Love him. Serve him. Share the gospel. But don't affirm his sin or adopt his worldview.
- The teacher: Speak respectfully. Ask questions. Escalate if needed. But protect your kids first.
- Your child: Keep praying. Keep speaking truth. Model repentance. Don't give up, even when they mock you.
- The activist: Oppose the agenda. Pray for their soul. Remember they're enslaved, not just evil.
The people aren't the enemy. But the battle is real.
Why This Handbook Exists
You need tools. Not just theology, but practical, daily, how-do-I-actually-do-this tools.
This handbook will equip you to:
1. Know Christ Intimately (Part 1: The "I AM" Statements) Before you can follow Him, you must know Him. Not just facts about Him, but His character, His identity, His heart — and most importantly, His divine nature. Jesus isn't just a teacher pointing you to God. He IS God. That changes everything.
2. Obey Christ Faithfully (Part 2: His Commands) Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commands." Not suggestions. Commands. We'll organize them so you can actually understand and obey them. And we'll see that these aren't just wise teachings — they're the commands of God incarnate.
3. Understand How Jesus Teaches (Part 3: The Parables) The parables aren't just nice stories. They reveal how the kingdom works, how disciples live, and what's at stake. And they're taught by God Himself, revealing mysteries of His own kingdom.
4. Grow in Spiritual Maturity (Part 4: The Beatitudes) The Beatitudes aren't random virtues — they're sequential stages of growth. You'll see where you are and what comes next.
5. Walk in the Spirit's Power (Part 5: The Holy Spirit) Jesus had to leave so the Helper could come. The Spirit mends your brokenness, empowers your obedience, and intercedes when you can't. This is the engine of everything in this handbook — the source without which the other eleven sections become obligation rather than love in motion. Read it early. Let it govern how you receive everything else.
6. Fight with Spiritual Weapons (Part 6: The Armor of God) You can't fight spiritual enemies with fleshly strength. Here's how to put on the armor daily.
7. Exercise Christ's Authority in Healing and Deliverance (Part 7: The Authority of the Disciple) Jesus commanded His disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons. This isn't reserved for elite Christians — it's part of the rescue mission. You'll learn the legal basis for operating in Christ's delegated authority, how to pray for healing, how to minister deliverance, and the critical warnings about approaching spiritual authority with humility. This is offense, not just defense — actively enforcing Christ's victory on enemy-occupied territory.
8. Engage the Culture Strategically (Part 8: Cultural Battles) Gender ideology, family breakdown, government, education — how do you navigate these minefields without compromising or hiding?
9. Handle Failure Biblically (Part 9: Repentance & Grace) You will fail. Your kids will fail. Here's what to do when you do.
10. Fight Together (Part 10: Community) You can't do this alone. The "one another" commands aren't optional.
11. Make Disciples (Part 11: The Great Commission) You're not just called to follow — you're called to lead others to follow. Starting at home.
12. Build Daily Rhythms (Part 12: Spiritual Disciplines) Prayer, Scripture, worship, fasting, Sabbath — the practices that form you into a disciple who can endure.
Four Things You Need to Hear Before We Start
1. Jesus Isn't Just Your Example — He's Your God
This is the foundation everything else rests on.
The one you're following isn't a great teacher pointing you to God. He IS God, come in flesh.
When Jesus says "I AM" (ego eimi), He's claiming the divine name — YHWH, the God who spoke to Moses from the burning bush (Exodus 3:14). The Pharisees understood this immediately. That's why they picked up stones to kill Him (John 8:58–59). He was claiming to be God — which is either true (and you worship Him) or blasphemy (and He deserved death).
It was true. He IS God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was fully God.
— John 1:1 (NET)
Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory — the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.
— John 1:14 (NET)
For in him all the fullness of deity lives in bodily form.
— Colossians 2:9 (NET)
This changes everything about how you approach this handbook:
- His commands aren't suggestions from a wise rabbi — they're commands from your Creator
- His parables aren't just clever stories — they're God revealing the mysteries of His kingdom
- His example isn't just a model to imitate — it's God showing you what humanity was meant to be
- His sacrifice isn't just a heroic death — it's God Himself paying the penalty for your sin
- His authority isn't derived — it's ultimate, because He IS God
You're not just learning from Jesus. You're encountering God.
Part 1 will establish this foundation thoroughly. Don't skip it. Everything else depends on getting this right.
