Part 4: The Path of Growth — The Beatitudes

Stage 6: The Pure in Heart (Matthew 5:8)

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

— Matthew 5:8 (NET)

What it means: Single-minded devotion. No hidden agendas. No mixed motives. You want God, not what God can give you.

Why it's sixth: Purity of heart is impossible with unconfessed sin, bitterness, or pride. The earlier stages clear the ground.

How you know you're here: Your motives are increasingly unmixed. You serve God for His sake, not for reward. You long to see Him, not just use Him.

The result: "They shall see God." Intimacy is the reward of purity.

What's next: Pure hearts naturally pursue peace. (Stage 7: Peacemakers)

Stage 7: The Peacemakers (Matthew 5:9)

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.

— Matthew 5:9 (NET)

What it means: Actively pursuing reconciliation — not just avoiding conflict, but making peace. Between people and God (evangelism). Between people and people (reconciliation).

Why it's seventh: You can't make peace while you're bitter, prideful, or self-serving. The earlier stages prepare you.

How you know you're here: You pursue reconciliation even when it costs you. You help others reconcile. You're known for bringing people together.

The result: "They shall be called sons of God." You're acting like your Father — He is the ultimate Peacemaker (2 Corinthians 5:18–19).

What's next: Peacemaking often brings persecution. (Stage 8: The Persecuted)

Stage 8: The Persecuted (Matthew 5:10–12)

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things about you falsely on account of me. Rejoice and be glad because your reward is great in heaven, for they persecuted the prophets before you in the same way.

— Matthew 5:10–12 (NET)

What it means: The world will reject you because you look like Jesus. Not persecution for being obnoxious — that doesn't count. Persecution "for righteousness' sake."

Why it's eighth (final): This is maturity. You've grown from spiritual bankruptcy (Stage 1) to looking so much like Christ that the world hates you for it. Full circle: "Theirs is the kingdom of heaven" — the same promise as Stage 1.

How you know you're here: You're mocked, slandered, opposed — for following Jesus. You rejoice in suffering (Acts 5:41). You're in good company: the prophets, apostles, and martyrs before you.

The result: "Your reward is great in heaven." Temporary suffering, eternal glory.

What's next: Keep cycling through. You'll revisit earlier stages at deeper levels as you grow.
