Part 4: The Path of Growth — The Beatitudes

Stage 3: The Meek (Matthew 5:5)

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

— Matthew 5:5 (NET)

What it means: Surrendered strength. Not weakness — meekness is strength under control. A horse that submits to the bridle is meek. A wild horse is not.

Why it's third: Mourning breaks your pride. Now you surrender your will, your rights, your agenda to God.

How you know you're here: You stop demanding your rights. You trust God instead of fighting for yourself. You're gentle, not defensive.

The result: "They shall inherit the earth." Paradox: you stop grasping, and God gives you what you stopped fighting for.

What's next: Surrender creates space for deeper desire. (Stage 4: Hunger for righteousness)

Stage 4: Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness (Matthew 5:6)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

— Matthew 5:6 (NET)

What it means: Deep longing for holiness — not just wanting to avoid sin, but craving to be like Christ.

Why it's fourth: You can't truly hunger for righteousness while clinging to your own will (that's why meekness comes first).

How you know you're here: You're no longer satisfied with mediocrity. You long to see God's will done on earth as in heaven. Sin grieves you more than it used to.

The result: "They shall be satisfied." God created the hunger — He will fill it.

What's next: Once you've received mercy (being filled), you give mercy. (Stage 5: The Merciful)

Stage 5: The Merciful (Matthew 5:7)

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

— Matthew 5:7 (NET)

What it means: You give what you've received. Quick to forgive, slow to judge, generous with second chances.

Why it's fifth: You can't genuinely give mercy until you've deeply received it (Stages 1–4).

How you know you're here: You forgive quickly. You don't keep score. You're patient with others' failures because you remember your own.

The result: "They shall receive mercy." What you give, you get. (Matthew 7:2 — "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you.")

What's next: Mercy purifies motives. (Stage 6: Pure in heart)
