Part 11: Making Disciples

What If You've Never Been Discipled?

Good news: you can still disciple others. Follow Jesus directly — He's the ultimate discipler; spend time with Him in Scripture and prayer. Learn from others (read biographies of faithful Christians, listen to solid teaching). Invite someone to join you: "I'm learning to follow Jesus. Want to figure this out together?"

You don't need to be an expert. You just need to be one step ahead.

A man named Carlos became a Christian at 35. No one discipled him. He read the Gospels, prayed, and asked God to teach him. Six months later, he invited his coworker Luis to study the Bible with him. They were both new believers, stumbling through together. Two years later, both Carlos and Luis were discipling others. The Spirit is your teacher (1 John 2:27). Trust Him.

The Goal: A Movement, Not a Moment

Discipleship isn't about getting someone to pray a prayer and moving on. It's about raising up disciples who make disciples who make disciples. Jesus invested three years in twelve men. Most of your friends won't invest three months in one person. But what if you did?

What if, in ten years, you could point to five people whose lives are radically different because you invested in them — and they're now discipling others? That's a movement.

Final Encouragement: You're Not Alone

And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

— Matthew 28:20 (NET)

Jesus didn't just command you to make disciples. He promised to be with you as you do. You're not doing this alone. The Spirit empowers you. Jesus walks with you. The Father delights in you.

Start small. Start now. Start with one person.

Action this week:

  1. Pray: "God, who do you want me to disciple?"
  2. Write down the name of one person.
  3. Invite them to meet weekly for six months.
  4. If they say yes, schedule your first meeting.
  5. Read Mark 1 before you meet.

That's it. Just start.
