Part 5: The Holy Spirit

The Mandate: You Cannot Do This Alone

As you close this section and prepare to move into the armor of God, the cultural battles, the daily disciplines, and the work of making disciples, remember this: you cannot follow Jesus alone. The Helper is necessary for every ordinary moment of the rescue mission.

You are not strong enough to fight this war. You are not wise enough to navigate these battles. You are not holy enough to resist temptation. You are not loving enough to forgive your enemies. You are not patient enough to endure suffering. You are not faithful enough to persevere to the end.

But the Spirit is.

He is the lifeblood flowing from the Head, sustaining every part of the body. He is the sap rising from the Root, enabling every branch to bear fruit. He is the quiet, constant, sovereign power of God dwelling in you (1 Corinthians 3:16), working in you (Philippians 2:13), interceding for you (Romans 8:26), transforming you (2 Corinthians 3:18), empowering you (Acts 1:8). And He will complete what He started (Philippians 1:6).

Not you. Him.

Your job is to abide. To recognize your dependence. To draw on His strength. To walk in step with Him (Galatians 5:25) even when you don't feel His presence. To trust that He is working even when you can't see the fruit yet.

The Spirit is not a bonus feature for advanced Christians. He is the essential power source without which nothing else works.

So as you move forward into the battle, into the disciplines, into the long work of becoming like Christ — do not try to do it in your own strength. Abide in the Vine (John 15:4). Let the lifeblood flow. Recognize the Quiet Power who is already in you.

And trust that the Helper Jesus sent will help you do what you cannot do alone.

He is God. He is with you. And He will not fail.

Now, Part 6 will show you how to put on the armor of God and wield the weapons He's given you for this war.
