Part 3: How Jesus Teaches
Summary of Part 3: The Parables
Category A: Kingdom Parables taught you how the kingdom works:
- It grows from small beginnings (Mustard Seed)
- It spreads invisibly but pervasively (Leaven)
- It's worth everything (Hidden Treasure, Pearl)
- It includes wheat and tares until judgment (Wheat/Tares, Net)
- The Word is the seed (Sower)
Category B: Discipleship Parables taught you how to live:
- Love practically (Good Samaritan)
- Come home when you've wandered (Prodigal Son)
- Approach God humbly, not proudly (Pharisee/Tax Collector)
- Forgive as you've been forgiven (Unforgiving Servant)
- Don't resent God's grace to others (Workers in Vineyard)
- Don't live for wealth (Rich Fool)
- Pray persistently (Persistent Widow, Friend at Midnight)
Category C: Judgment Parables warned you what's at stake:
- Some who claim Christianity are false (Ten Virgins)
- You'll be judged for what you did with what you were given (Talents)
- How you treat the vulnerable reveals your heart (Sheep/Goats)
- Coming to God on your own terms won't work (Wedding Feast)
- Hell is real and eternal (Rich Man/Lazarus)
- Obedience, not just knowledge, is the foundation (Wise/Foolish Builders)
A Final Warning from the Teacher
These aren't just stories. God Himself spoke these parables. Jesus — YHWH in flesh — revealed these truths. They're not suggestions. They're divine revelation. And the stakes are ultimate:
- Outer darkness (Matthew 25:30)
- Weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:42)
- Eternal fire (Matthew 25:41)
- Eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46)
Jesus spoke more about hell than heaven. Why? Because He's love (1 John 4:8), and love warns. If you saw someone about to walk off a cliff, you'd shout a warning. Jesus is shouting warnings through these parables. Will you listen?
Action for this week:
Pick one parable that convicted you most. Write down:
- What it reveals about God
- What it reveals about you
- One specific action you'll take in response
Then do it. Don't just be a hearer. Be a doer (James 1:22).
Now, Part 4 will show you the path of spiritual growth through the Beatitudes.
