Part Two: The Person of Jesus

Section 6 — Ruh min Allah: Spirit from God

Alongside Kalimatullah, the Quran calls Jesus Ruh min Allah — a Spirit from God (Surah 4:171). The preposition min (from) points to origin and nature. God breathed His Spirit into Adam — but Adam is not called Ruh min Allah. Jesus alone receives this title, unique and demanding a unique explanation.

✖ Muslim Response: Ruh min Allah means God breathed His Spirit into Mary to cause the miraculous conception — the same way He breathed His Spirit into Adam.

✔ How to respond: Adam was never called Ruh min Allah. He received a breath; Jesus IS the Spirit from God. Furthermore: in the Quran, when Jesus performed miracles, He did so with a directness unlike any other prophet. Other prophets pray to God for miracles. Jesus commands. Rise up and the dead rise. A Spirit from God might explain why.

Section 7 — The Sinlessness of Jesus

Every major prophet in the Quran is recorded as sinning and seeking forgiveness. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Muhammad — all recorded as needing forgiveness. Jesus is the sole exception. Islamic tradition explicitly teaches that Jesus was born without the touch of Satan (Sahih al-Bukhari 4:55:641). Sinlessness in a human being is not merely impressive. It is theologically impossible — unless that person has a nature different from fallen human nature.

✖ Muslim Response: Jesus was sinless because God protected him, just as God protected other prophets.

✔ How to respond: No other prophet is described as having this unique protection from the moment of birth. A sinless person owes nothing before God — their scales are already perfectly balanced. What does a sinless person do with a world of sinners? Either ignores them (not what He did) or uses His surplus righteousness for something. The cross is the answer.

Section 8 — The Virgin Birth: Agreed by Both Traditions

Both the Gospels and the Quran affirm the virgin birth (Surah 19:20–21). If Jesus was born without a human father, He has a different origin from every other human being. His Father, biologically and ontologically, is not a human man.

"The angel replied, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called the Son of God.'" — Luke 1:35 (NET)

✖ Muslim Response: The virgin birth shows God's power to create however He chooses. Adam had no mother or father — even more miraculous.

✔ How to respond: Adam was created from the dust of the ground. Jesus's origin is different: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit within Mary, meaning the Father of the child is God Himself. A child shares the nature of its parents. If Jesus's Father is God, what is His nature?
