Part Six: The Invitation

Section 33 — The Door That Was Always Open

The Christian Statement

After all the arguments, all the conversations, all the questions followed honestly wherever they led — the door is still what it always was. Open. Not locked. Not guarded. Not requiring a theological entrance exam or a resolved intellectual objection or a sufficiently clean moral record.

I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved, and will come in and go out, and find pasture. — John 10:9 (NET)

The exclusively Jesus-shaped door is not about the superiority of Christians. It is about the uniqueness of what Jesus accomplished. There is one payment for the human debt. Therefore one door through which debt-cancelled people enter. But the door is not narrow in the sense of being hard to find. It is narrow in the sense that it is specific — a specific Person, making a specific offer, available to anyone who will walk through it.

"Find pasture." Not: enter and face an examination. Not: enter and receive a list of requirements. Enter and find what you were hungry for. Rest. Provision. The relief of being exactly where you were made to be.

Section 34 — The Conversion Prayer for the Person Who Isn't Sure They Believe It Yet

The Christian Statement

The secular person who has reached the point of genuine openness often feels they cannot pray a conversion prayer because they are not yet certain. They are waiting to be sure before they act.

The disciple can invite them to pray the most honest prayer available — not a declaration of certainty but an act of genuine seeking. The prayer of the father in Mark 9:24: "I believe; help my unbelief." It does not require certainty. It requires honesty. And the God who responds to honest seeking will meet the person where they are.

God — I'm not certain you're there. But I'm honest enough to admit I'm not certain you're not. I've followed the questions and I haven't been able to dismiss them the way I expected to. If you're real — if Jesus is who He claimed to be, if the resurrection happened, if any of this is true — I want to know. Not because I'm ready to have everything change, but because I'd rather know the truth than stay comfortable in uncertainty. I'm asking you to show yourself to me. I'm asking honestly. If you're there, I want to find you. Amen.

This prayer is not a lesser version of the conversion prayer. It is the conversion prayer for the person whose honesty requires them to start where they actually are. And the God who said "seek and you will find" honors honest seeking.
