Vol IV: The Testing Ground
A Final Word: Four Volumes, One Story
Volume I gave the disciple their identity. Volume II gave them their King. Volume III gave them the conversation with the Muslim. Volume IV gives them the conversation with the secular mind.
But all four volumes are one story. The story of a God who made everything, who was not content to watch it drift away from Him, who entered it in the most specific and historical way available — as a first-century Jewish carpenter in Roman-occupied Palestine — who died the death the debt required, who descended into the holding place of the dead and shattered its gates and came back with the keys, who rose on the third day with the full endorsement of the Father on everything He had claimed and done, and who is now not far from each one of us.
The agnostic who has never asked the question honestly. The atheist who has placed their faith in matter's self-sufficiency. The Muslim who senses that something is missing. The prodigal who has built an identity around everything except the One who made them.
For all of them: the door is open. It was always open. The Person on the other side has been running toward them since before they turned.
"You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you." — Augustine of Hippo, Confessions, c. 397 AD
That restlessness is the fingerprint of the Maker on everything He made. It is the apologetic that no argument can replicate and no secular substitute can satisfy.
Point to it. Patiently. With genuine love. And trust the One who put it there.
