Governing Principles
Standard Entry Structure
Every case: (1) Audience. (2) The tension stated plainly. (3) The load-bearing assumption. (4) The resolution, or honest naming of unresolvable tension. (5) Precedent note — what the standard sources say and where this analysis extends or differs. (6) Cross-reference tags. Resolution category is tracked separately from listing category — several Category One challenges resolve by invoking a Category Three polarity, and that distinction matters depending on who is in the room.
On Sources and Their Weight
Patristic sources — the Fathers of the first through fifth centuries — carry more weight than modern popular resources. Where a Father addressed a case, his reasoning is engaged directly, not summarized. Popular resources (GotQuestions, Answers in Genesis, Wikipedia) are useful for mapping the terrain of existing answers and identifying where those answers stop short. They are reference points, not authorities. The Gospel Coalition, Ligonier, and serious academic resources are engaged as genuine conversation partners. Islamic apologetics sources are engaged as the sharpest form of the external challenge where they apply — their challenges have been honed against the text and deserve the best available response.
A Continuing Question
For every completed case: does this analysis engage the views from the precedent list? Does it know what the standard answer is? Does it go beyond where the standard answer stops? If the analysis only reproduces what GotQuestions already says, it has not done its work.
On Derived Timelines
Some texts — genealogies especially — have been used to build chronological timelines that are then cited with scriptural authority. Archbishop James Ussher's seventeenth-century calculation placing creation at 4004 BC is the most influential example. It was printed in the margins of the King James Bible for centuries and absorbed by many readers as part of the inspired text. It is not. Derived timelines are interpretive conclusions, not Scripture. When they are held as Scripture, they create problems the text does not create. This matters especially for Young Earth Creationism, which depends on Ussher's timeline or similar calculations. Every case that touches genealogical or chronological data carries this flag.
