Vol VI: When Salt Loses Its Savor

Appendix D: The Adversary's Four Confessions: A Summary

The four confessions across the series describe four distinct operations against the Gospel, each with a different character and a different vulnerability:

First Confession - "My Finest Work" (Volume III: Islam) Operation: The near-truth. Five surgical excisions from the Gospel (Trinity, Incarnation, Crucifixion, Indwelling Spirit, Grace) producing a system 95% accurate that removes the mechanism of salvation. Fourteen centuries of construction and maintenance. Vulnerability: Jesus's name left in the Quran, impossible to remove.

Second Confession - "My Laziest Work" (Volume IV: The Secular Mind) Operation: The empty room. No theological construction required. Simply maintained a cultural atmosphere of noise and comfort sufficient to prevent the deepest questions from being heard. Vulnerability: The Moral Law, written in the constitution of every human being, impossible to silence.

Third Confession - "My Most Personal Work" (Volume V: The Jewish People) Operation: The sustained suppression campaign. The longest-running operation in history, including the use of the church itself as an instrument of persecution to make the name of Jesus synonymous with the name of the persecutor. Vulnerability: Isaiah 53, impossible to remove from the Jewish scriptures, describing the Messiah with two thousand years of clarity.

Fourth Confession - "My Most Efficient Operation" (Volume VI: The Church's Own Failures) Operation: The inside job. No external construction required. The church's own tendencies toward intellectual overclaim, institutional gatekeeping, misplaced certainty, and enabling compassion produced the stumbling blocks without assistance. Vulnerability: The combination of conviction and love that Jesus modeled - truth spoken in love, the standard held without the exclusion of the person - which the Adversary cannot manufacture or neutralize.

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

-- Matthew 5:13 (NET)

"Everyone will know by this that you are my disciples - if you have love for one another."

-- John 13:35 (NET)
