The Vine Is the Path
With Gratitude
This essay stands in company older than itself. Athanasius, Irenaeus, Gregory of Nazianzus, John of Damascus, and Maximus the Confessor taught the church that salvation is union with God and that the ordinary believer was made for it - their vision of theosis is the spine of these pages. Brother Lawrence showed, from a monastery kitchen, what direct communion looks like in a working life; his little book has outlived every system that would have told him he needed one. The Psalter taught the range of the heart that any honest walk with God requires. Where more recent companions have shaped the thinking without being quoted, their fingerprints are here and gladly acknowledged. Scripture is the NET Bible, used by permission of Biblical Studies Press; His words carry a weight these never will, and the formatting throughout has tried to honor that.
