Part 6
The Vine and the Chain: One Reality, Two Languages
There is a cosmic structure that both traditions dimly recognize but neither fully understands: the Chain of command. And paradoxically, understanding the Chain clarifies why direct access is not just biblically true but cosmically correct.
The Chain flows downward. God, then Christ, then humans, then creation. Colossians describes it:
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created by Him - all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers - all things were created through Him and for Him. He Himself is before all things, and all things are held together in Him."
— Colossians 1:15-17 (NET)
There is an order. There is a structure. Authority and provision flow down from God through intermediaries to accomplish God's will in creation.
But notice the direction of the flow. Not sideways. Not up through human intermediaries to God. The flow is down from God through the Chain to accomplish God's purposes. When you pray directly to God, you are aligned with the Chain. God hears you. God decides what to do. God directs the angels to accomplish His will. The Chain works: God's authority flows to you; your obedience flows from you to creation. You do not ask sideways through someone else who asks God. That would violate the Chain's structure. The Chain does not work that way.
This is why the mediatory systems are not just unbiblical but cosmically wrong. They try to turn the Chain into a sideways structure where you ask a saint, the saint asks God, God acts. But that is not how the cosmos operates. The Chain flows down. You are positioned in the Chain receiving directly from God and flowing outward to your sphere of authority. Guardian angels do not intercept your prayers. They receive God's direction about your situation. You do not petition the angels. You petition God, who directs the angels on your behalf.
The vine is the relational language for this reality. You abide in the vine. Sap flows into you from the source. You are dependent. You are connected. The Chain is the structural language for the same reality. You are positioned correctly in the cosmic order: receiving directly from God, not asking sideways through human intermediaries. The vine emphasizes intimacy. The Chain emphasizes order. But they describe the same thing: direct access is how the universe actually works.
This understanding transforms what it means to seek God's will. You do not seek through an institution that stands between you and God. You seek by positioning yourself correctly in the Chain: asking God directly, listening for His response, moving in obedience. And as you move, you are not moving in isolation. Angels respond to God's direction about your situation. Authorities God has placed in your life respond to His will. Circumstances align. The whole Chain moves together when you are aligned with it.
But seeking God's will also means respecting the legitimate authorities in the Chain. Parents, teachers, pastors, leaders - these are real. They are part of how God orders creation. Seeking God's will does not mean independence from them. It means asking God directly while remaining submitted to the legitimate authorities God has placed over you. It means being open when those authorities correct you or guide you. But it means never accepting an authority that claims you cannot encounter God directly without their mediation. That authority is violating the Chain's structure.
The vine and the Chain are one reality. Direct relational intimacy with God (the vine) is aligned with the cosmic order that flows from God downward (the Chain). You do not have to choose between relationship and structure. You abide in the vine - deepening your union with Christ. And in that abiding, you are positioned correctly in the Chain - receiving directly from God, moving in alignment with His will, flowing that obedience out to your sphere of influence. Both are true simultaneously. Both confirm the other. Both tell you the same thing: direct access is correct. Mediation through human institutions is not.
