Part Seven: Praying in His Name

Part Seven Summary

The Name Is a Legal Position. Occupy It.

Three chapters. One Name. The most powerful and most misunderstood principle in the disciple’s prayer life, received in full.

Chapter Twenty-Six cleared the three misunderstandings that corrupt the name — verbal formula, blank check, magic incantation — and established what the name actually represents: a legal position occupied by the authorized representative of the King, carrying the King’s authority, speaking the King’s purposes, backed by the King’s intercession from the right hand of the Father. The three dimensions of the name — relational, positional, purposive — and the six principles for praying genuinely in it gave the disciple the framework for approaching the Father not as a hopeful petitioner but as an authorized ambassador.

Chapter Twenty-Seven addressed the Father’s response to prayer in the Name: three modes — yes, not yet, something better — and three reasons why persistence is required even when the response is not immediate. The Father’s no is never absence. It is the presence of a wisdom that sees further than the petition and provides more than the petition knew to ask for. The four alignment questions gave the disciple a practical test for whether a specific request is genuinely in Jesus’ name.

Chapter Twenty-Eight received the corporate dimension: Matthew 18:18–20, the binding and loosing, the sumphōneō of genuine agreement, and the promise that where two or three gather in the Name, Jesus is specifically and presently there. The grammar of Matthew 18:18 revealed that binding and loosing is enforcement, not creation. The danger of corporate prayer without corporate holiness was named. The contrast table showed the difference between gathering in a name and gathering in the Name.

The Name is not a verbal tag. It is a legal position that only the person who genuinely belongs to Jesus actually occupies. Occupy it. Pray from it. The authority available from that position is all authority in heaven and on earth.

“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive it, so that your joy may be complete.”
