Appendix E
The Personal Amen
A Completion Document — The Disciple’s Written Response to Everything This Volume Has Given
This appendix is not a review exercise. It is a completion document — the written form of the three Amens that Chapter Thirty-Three named as the only adequate response to everything this volume has given. Work through it slowly. Resist the urge to fill it quickly. Some of the questions require several days of prayer before the answer is ready to be written. Write in pencil if you want to return and revise. The point is not a perfect answer. The point is an honest one.

SECTION ONE: AMEN TO WHO HE IS
The Amen of recognition — orienting your entire existence around who He is.
1. After completing this volume, what do you know about Jesus that you either did not know before, or knew intellectually but have now received as a lived reality?
2. Revelation 3:14 calls Jesus “the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.” In your own words — not theological vocabulary, your words — write who you now understand Jesus to be.
3. Where in your life is the gap between what you believe about Jesus and how you actually live the smallest? Where is it largest?
SECTION TWO: AMEN TO WHAT HE HAS SAID
The Amen of reception — taking the whole without softening.
4. Which Verily statement in this volume landed with the most weight for you? Write it out in full. Then write why.
5. Is there a Verily statement in this volume that you have not yet fully received — one you intellectually acknowledge but whose implications you have not yet acted on? Name it.
6. Which of the volume’s “hard words” — the teaching on plain speech, on marriage, on the idol the King is asking you to release — requires the most from you personally? What does receiving it fully look like?
7. John 17:3 defines eternal life as the present-tense knowing of the Father and the Son. Write an honest assessment of where your knowing is right now: what it looks like, where it is growing, where it has stalled.
SECTION THREE: AMEN TO WHAT HE IS DOING
The Amen of participation — committing to specific action.
8. The volume has named several battles the disciple is called to engage: cultural, relational, spiritual, vocational. What is the specific battle you are being called to in this season? Name it plainly.
9. What idol — from the inventory in Part Six Chapter Twenty-Five — is the King asking you to release? Security? Reputation? Control? Comfort? Something else? What does releasing it look like in one specific, concrete act?
10. What is the one specific practice you are committing to from this volume that will still be part of your daily life in one year? Name it. Describe what it looks like. Write the day and time you will begin.
11. Who in your life needs what this volume has given you? Not a general answer — a specific person. What is one step you will take toward giving them access to it?
THE WRITTEN AMEN
Close this document by writing, in your own words, your Amen. Not a summary of the volume. Not a theological statement. The personal, specific, written confirmation that the King who spoke these words is who He says He is, that what He has sealed is true, and that you are in.
Write it as a prayer if that is most natural. Write it as a declaration if that is more fitting. Write it as a letter to the One who has been speaking. Write it however the Spirit prompts. But write it.
