Liked But Not Read: The Meme Verses That Replaced the Actual Ones

How This Book Fits the Corpus

This book is a companion volume to the Battle of Civilizations discipleship corpus. It does not require the other volumes before it, but it rewards the reader who has encountered them. Its natural partner is When Did You Last Check the Foundation of Your House, which examines the structural assumptions beneath Christian tradition. This volume examines something more intimate: the verses themselves. Not the traditions built around them, but the specific lines of text that have been handed from pulpit to pew, from graduation speech to hospital room, from framed print to morning devotional, and somewhere in the transmission lost something essential.

The corpus exists around a single center: John 17:3. Eternal life is not a future destination but a present-tense relational knowing of the Father and the Son. Every volume is a different angle of approach to that center. This volume approaches it through the damage done when the center is replaced — not by heresy, but by a helpful-sounding simplification that cuts the verse loose from the body it lives in and puts it to work doing something it was never built to do.

The Battle of Civilizations series is an eight-volume field manual for the disciple who has decided to do the actual work of knowing God. Volume I establishes identity in Christ and the commands of Jesus. Volume II develops the practice of recognizing and following God's voice. Volumes III through V equip the disciple for honest engagement with the Muslim, secular, and Jewish neighbor respectively. Volume VI works through the stumbling blocks inside the church itself. Volume VII and its companion address the cosmic architecture behind what is visible.

The Adversary Trilogy — Know Your Enemy in two volumes and Breaking Satan's Lies — examines deception in the adversary's own voice and in the apparatus of the present cultural moment. The Foundation Essays establish the theological architecture. The Bridge Volumes translate it into physics, pre-Flood archaeology, the intermediate state, the Psalms, and Revelation. The Synthesis gathers the whole into a confession of faith.

This volume sits alongside Biblical Contradictions: Three Categories, Forty-Six Cases as a companion in the Apologetic Foundation grouping. That volume builds textual confidence by showing how apparent contradictions dissolve under honest methodology. This volume builds the same confidence from a different angle — by showing how honest reading recovers something richer than what the popular version contains. They are two approaches to the same conviction: the text is better than the shortcuts we have made of it.
