A Confession of Faith
On Confessions and This One
A confession of faith is not a creed. A creed is brief enough to be memorized and recited together. A confession elaborates what the creed contains, addresses the questions the creed raises, and guards against the errors the creed prevents. This confession arises from ten volumes of sustained theological reflection on the Upper Room Discourse and the gospel of John, and it addresses a specific failure of contemporary Christianity: the separation of salvation from knowing.
A church that confesses this faith will find itself reading Scripture differently, praying differently, discipling differently, and understanding its warfare differently. Confessions are not neutral documents. They shape practitioners. We offer this confession in the hope that it will shape you toward the relational knowing that is the whole of eternal life.
